Vertical Chill opened in December 2005 and is situated inside The North Face Store, Manchester. It is a refrigerated unit running through the shop's 2 floors. Inside at a constant -12°C an 8 metre concave real ice climbing wall presents a steep challenge to both novice and accomplished climbers.
If you borrow our equipment you will be provided with The North Face clothing, axes, crampons, harnesses, helmets, and gloves. You may wish to bring a change of T-shirt and socks to change into afterwards.
You may bring your own equipment if you wish. Crampons must be suitable for climbing and not walking. Boots must be B3 mountaineering boots. Both axes and crampons should be suitably sharp and may be refused if not. Clothing should be suitable for ice climbing in temperatures of –10°C.
