Historic, Festive Nuremberg with Social Circle’s Exclusive Member’s Tour, inc Fantastic, Central Accommodation

Nuremberg – Europe's Christmas capital.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! The enticing smells of mulled wine and rum punch, roasted almonds, Nuremberg bratwurst and gingerbread fill the air.

Nuremberg (Nürnberg), Bavaria’s second-largest city and the unofficial capital of Franconia, is an energetic place where the nightlife is intense and the beer is as dark as coffee. As one of Bavaria’s biggest draws it is alive with visitors year-round, but especially during the spectacular Christmas market.

Every year, we pay a visit to the Manchester Christmas Markets (and I'm sure we will this year too) but how about going to the world's finest?

When you smell anis, cinnamon and cloves, are you reminded of the Christmases of your childhood? Does the glow of candlelight warm your heart? We promise you that a visit to Nuremberg at Christmastime will awake your fondest memories and create new ones for years to come. Nuremberg in Advent is a place to anticipate the joy that Christmas brings … because Nuremberg is Germany’s Christmas City!

Trip Highlights: The 950-year old city of Nuremberg (Nürnberg) is Bavaria’s second largest city and alive with history. The city is full of highlights that no visitor should miss – from history buffs, and art lovers, to culinary travelers, and romantics. The Christmas markets are the highlight at this time of year but the medieval city features numerous other must-sees.

City Information: The city of Nürnberg, in the German state of Bavaria, is famous for its medieval walls and ancient castle, gingerbread cookies, toy manufacturing, Gothic churches, Nürnberger bratwurst and the Christmas market.

Thursday Night: Depart from UK Organise your flight early! We wil be catching the Ryanair flight from Manchester.

Once we arrive and have checked in, we will go and explore the local area and the Nuremberg's famous festive atmosphere, while getting to know each other over a few drinks,

Friday: Let yourself be enchanted by the special and festive atmosphere of the city. With its hundreds of years of history, the traditional market has to offer many things to do and enjoy.

Just some of the highlights we will enjoy on the tour:

The Stagecoach Tour: Each visitor excitedly turns to look when the yellow stagecoach with the horses and the coachmen passes by. Experience a nostalgic trip around the festive city sitting cosily in the coach, passing by the sights of Nuremberg and listening to the Christmas songs the coachman plays on his trumpet…

The Famous Nuremberg Gingerbread: The famous Lebkuchen is baked for more than 600 years in Nuremberg. At the Christmas Market you’ll get them in every size and with different coatings like chocolate, sugar or even strawberry! Furthermore they are the perfect souvenirs for the loved ones at home, packed in beautiful tin boxes.

Hot Mulled Wine: When it’s cold outside, a hot mulled wine will warm you again after your stroll around the Christmas Market. It comes along in a beautiful mug, which is designed especially for every year. It’ll be the perfect souvenir for your kitchen cupboard at home!

For the ultimate Nürnberger Rostbratwurst dinner, we will visit the Historische Bratwurst-Küche Zum Gulden Stern, the oldest bratwurst restaurant in the world. Here, the sausages are always roasted over a beechwood fire, never pre-boiled or pre-fried, and all ingredients come from local family farms.

Saturday: Discover a truly extraordinary place on the 'Nuremberg: City of Empires' tour: beautiful and prosperous medieval walled city, center of the Holy Roman Empire, cradle of the German Renaissance, Temple City of the Third Reich, and home to both the Nuremberg Nazi Rallies and Nuremberg Trials.

Tour highlights include the Craftsmen's Court, St Lawrence Church, Marketplace with the Beautiful Fountain and Wishing Ring, Old Town Hall, Albrecht Dürer House, Castle Courtyards and Gardens and more in the Old Town! At the Rally Grounds you'll see Nuremberg's former World War I memorial, the Luitpold Arena from "Triumph of the Will", The Great Street, the Congress Hall of the Nazi Party and more.

Sunday:* Situated on a hill overlooking the winding streets below, Nuremberg’s castle, Kaiserburg, has been a symbol of the city since the Middle Ages. There are three sections of the complex: the imperial castle fortress, the burgrave (headquarters of Medieval regional administration), and the municipal buildings of the Free Imperial City of Nuremberg (when Nuremberg was a city-state).

We will have the option to pay admission, which would allow us to explore the interior of the castle, including its residential Palace and double chapel, well house, and Sinwell Tower, but some of the best views of the Old City of Nuremberg can be seen from the courtyard, which is free to explore—comfortable shoes are a must for the uphill climb to get there.
