A landmark commission, 30 Days of The Smiths interweaves music and lyrics by one of the most influential British guitar groups of all time, with a soundscape devised by international poet Jackie Kay and musical artist and DJ Oberman Knocks.
The music and legacy of The Smiths are synonymous with Manchester and Salford and Jackie Kay (Writer-in-Residence and Chancellor of the University of Salford) has drawn extraordinary stories from 30 ordinary local people with the surname of Smith - all set against enduring Smiths classics, including This Charming Man and What Difference Does it Make?
With additional contributions from writer Ali Smith, and consultant BBC Radio 6’s Mark Radcliffe, this is a unique production, to be experienced in The Dock – a key backstage space at The Lowry, reclaimed as the social and artistic heart of the festival.
'30 Days of The Smiths' is joined by artist, Jackie Kay, newly appointed Scots Makar.
