Synopsis: Jake Gyllenhaal gives another incredible performance in this quirky drama about a bereaved banker.

After his wife dies in a tragic car accident, Wall Street investment banker Davis (Jake Gyllenhaal) struggles to feel anything. His father-in-law Phil (Chris Cooper) attempts to console him and offer advice on how to rebuild his life. But Davis seems preoccupied with a minor complaint to a vending machine company. Eventually, his letters to the firm resonate with lonely customer service representative Karen (Naomi Watts). She forms an unlikely friendship with Davis, who learns that to move on he must first demolish his old life.

Offbeat, emotional and occasionally very funny indeed, Oscar-nominated director Jean-Marc Vallee's follow-up to Dallas Buyers Club and Wild benefits from another committed performance by Southpaw and Nightcrawler star Jake Gyllenhaal. He's ably supported by Naomi Watts and Chris Cooper, alongside impressive newcomer Judah Lewis as Karen's tearaway son, Chris.
