Brand New Social Circle Winter Holiday in the volcanic island of Tenerife.
Eight days in Tenerife on the 18th to the 25th of February; where we will step beyond the lobster-red tourists and find a cultured and civilised island of extraordinary diversity.
Join us in exploring this fantastic city. With once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to be had, you may just find yourself making some lifelong friends along the way. Tenerife is the largest of the seven Canary Islands, created volcanically, building up from the ocean floor 20–50 million years ago. The massive cone of Mount Teide dominates over this lush island, which is full of amazing geology and nature. With an elevation of 3,718 m (12,198 ft) above sea level, Teide is the highest point in all of Spain and the third largest volcano in the world from its base in the bottom of the sea. This makes Tenerife is the tenth highest island worldwide.
Tenerife is also located just north of the Tropic of Cancer which means that even in November the days can be as warm as 25 degrees Celsius. Talk about a great winter sun location! With Christmas fast approaching, wouldn’t it be good to shed a few kilograms with great views and company? Join Social Circle on this amazing adventure, exploring the cultural and natural heritage of Tenerife by foot this November!

Itinerary
18th Nov (Sat) arrive to Tenerife Sur airport at 7pm, transport to accommodation in Santa Cruz de Tenerife [insert accommodation blurb and photos]
19th Nov (Sun) sightseeing in Santa Cruz
20th Nov (Mon) sightseeing drive and transfer to the mountains, visit to the Cueva del Viento cave (largest lava tube in Europe €15), transfer to our lovely mountain hut which will be our home for the next 4 days
21st Nov (Tue) A moderate warm up walk, Paisaje Lunar (lunar landscape walk; 8 miles, 4h, 450m ascent) starts in the picturesque mountain town of Vilaflor, along good footpaths and across pine forests and wild valleys and ravines ascending some 450 metres up into the foothills of the Las Cañadas ridge towards an untouched valley with a spectacular pumice formation created by a series of volcanic eruptions and the erosive powers of wind and rain.
22nd Nov (Thu) Roques de Garcia and the mighty Guajara (9 miles, 800m gain, 5h, moderate). At 2,715 metres (9,000 feet) Guajara is Tenerife’s 4th highest peak, offering breathtaking views of Las Cañadas, Mount Teide and the south coast of Tenerife. After climbing the mountain (6 miles, moderate) we will descend to have a closer look at the Roques de Garcia, a dramatic line of volcanic spires and towers in the middle of the amazing Las Canadas caldera (3 miles, easy).
23rd Nov (Wed) Masca gorge walk (6 miles, 5-6h, 1,890m ascent, moderate). The Masca Gorge is one of the iconic and most beautiful walks on Tenerife, following a stream from the village of Masca down to the sea. The round trip takes 5-6h and offers spectacular views of Tenerife’s rugged and ever changing landscape. However, if your knees have enough after descending to the sea, you can hop on a water taxi to Los Gigantes instead and enjoy ice cream on the beach in style!
24th Nov (Fri) is our big day to get to the top of the gorgeous Mount Teide (3,718 m (12,198 ft)). The gradually increasing walks of the previous days should provide good training in the build up to this adventure. For the real sense of achievement, we will climb this mountain by night, in order to catch the sunrise on the top (5-6h, 5 miles, 1,620m ascent, hard). Don’t worry though, you don’t have to ascend it if you don’t feel like it, as Teide can also be reached by cable car and a 30 min summit attack which means everyone can enjoy the top of this gorgeous mountain. The climbers will then have an option of descending by cable car whilst the rest of us will descend down the mountain past amazing Huevos del Teide and other volcanic rock formations down to the car park for a transfer to the well-deserved spa hotel.
25th Nov (Sat) day at the spa, flight out
